In 1976, a United States battleship docked in the Israeli port of Haifa to deliver the first rehabilitation pool to Hadassah Hospital on Mount Scopus. Barbara Goldstein, Deputy Director of Hadassah’s Office in Israel, relates that the road from Haifa to Jerusalem was closed so that this massive, one-piece pool could be transported. It was not that large, but on the truck it looked Olympic size, she says. Now the rehabilitation pool, which had shown evidence of its age, has been refurbished, thanks to three generous donors, two of whom represent foundations. The third comes from relatives of Audrey Shimron, the Director of the Hadassah Office in Israel, who live in Greece. They were touched by the rehabilitation efforts of Hadassah’s health professionals on behalf of terror victims during the intifada.
