Irris Makler, award-winning Australian-born Israeli journalist and author, who was injured in a 2009 terrorist attack in Jerusalem and treated successfully at the Hadassah Medical Center, was the featured speaker at a community event, initiated by Hadassah Australia.

Co-sponsored with the Australian Friends of the Hebrew University, the Zionist Council of Victoria, and the Lamm Jewish Library of Australia, the event was attended by a wide cross-section of the Australian community. In her presentation, Ms. Makler described the day of the terrorist attack and the excellent care she received at Hadassah, as well as her experience of the diversity of the patients and health care staff. Ms. Makler also launched her new book, Hope Street, Jerusalem, a personal memoir which describes her life in Jerusalem against the backdrop of a volatile Middle East.
Hadassah Australia has invited Ms. Makler to return to Melbourne in March for future Hadassah events and she has graciously accepted.
