When an anxious young pregnant woman fleeing the violence in Ukraine arrived at the medical clinic in the refugee center on the Polish border, worried that perhaps her pregnancy was no longer viable, Dr. Yaakov Bentov from the Hadassah Medical Organization (HMO) ’s Medical Humanitarian Mission was on hand to provide concrete reassurance that her baby was fine.

The HM0 teams on the ground in the refugee centers are there to help in whatever capacity they can. Their mission is to run the clinic, to address as many medical issues as possible and to provide comfort and compassion to these people who have suffered so much.

Since many of the refugees are women, obstetrical and gynecological issues are common among the clinic’s patients. For this pregnant woman, the need was to confirm her pregnancy, following such a stressful escape from Ukraine.

“We didn’t have an ultrasound machine,” relates Dr. Bentov, “but we managed to get one.” He continues, “The woman was delighted to learn that the baby was healthy and even more delighted to know that it’s a baby girl.”

Dr. Bentov adds, “Because of our actions today, the woman will be able to move on to her next destination in a much calmer frame of mind.”
