This month, Hadassah International hosted a series of impactful events in Brazil, showcasing Israel’s resilience and healing efforts through powerful testimonies and expert insights. Israeli actress and dancer Rona-Lee Shimon, the new Global Ambassador for Hadassah International, led these events, addressing global antisemitism and the harsh realities of war.

Although Lieutenant Colonel Jonathan Bahat was scheduled to travel to Brazil, he was unable to due to the imminent threat of a massive attack from Iran. Nevertheless, he shared his personal experience from the Gaza war and his ongoing rehabilitation journey via video conference.

Dr. Sheer Shabat, a specialist from the Gandel Rehabilitation Center, and Shlomo Demma, a Hadassah patient with an incredible story, both emphasized the life-saving role of rehabilitation. Shlomo, a soldier severely wounded in Gaza, credited his recovery to the dedicated care at Hadassah. His words resonated deeply: “When I arrived at Hadassah, I was more dead than alive. Today, thanks to the hero doctors of the hospital and months of treatment, I feel more alive than dead!”

Throughout the week, nearly $9 million USD was raised to support the Gandel Rehabilitation Center, thanks to the dedicated support of the Brazilian community, long-time Hadassah supporters, and new friends of Hadassah. These funds will further enhance the center’s ability to provide comprehensive acute care, including physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and psychological support, helping patients like Shlomo and Yonti regain their independence and quality of life after severe injuries.

Concluding the week, Hadassah Brazil reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Hadassah Medical Organization in Jerusalem, with deep gratitude extended to the Brazilian community for their steadfast support. Together, we listened with our hearts, were moved, and joined hands in a firm commitment to continue supporting Israel and those most in need of rehabilitation.
