Prof. Yoram Weiss, MD, director general of the Hadassah Medical Organization, was on an El Al flight to Miami on January 22 when a passenger suffered a medical emergency.
En route to key Hadassah meetings, Prof. Weiss administered emergency care and requested an emergency landing in Athens so the patient could receive further treatment at a local hospital. Without a doubt, he saved the passenger’s life.
“I did what any doctor would do in such a situation,” said Prof. Weiss, a specialist in critical care and anesthesia, after the flight eventually landed in Miami. “We are doctors at all times, day and night, inside and outside the hospital. The instinct to save lives is embedded in us — even between heaven and earth.”
