Hadassah International is proud to announce that Dr. Manno (Micky) Saks has taken on the esteemed position of President. This appointment, made during the recent HI board meeting held on June 22, 2023, comes as a result of a unanimous vote, recognizing Dr. Saks’s wealth of experience and expertise that will undoubtedly contribute to the ongoing growth and success of our organization.

Dr. Micky Saks, a distinguished medical doctor from Zurich, Switzerland, has an impressive background in his field. In 1982, he completed his medical degree at the Technische Universität in Munich, Germany. Driven by a profound dedication to healthcare advancement, he pursued additional studies at the Division of Gynecologic Oncology at the Jackson Memorial Hospital, University of Miami, between 1984 and 1986. It was during this period that he successfully passed the U.S. medical state examinations and obtained his medical license (M.D.).

Apart from his remarkable medical achievements, Dr. Saks has also demonstrated a deep commitment to humanitarian efforts. He volunteered at the Hadassah Medical Clinic in the Przemyśl, Poland Refugee Center, an experience he describes as one of the most meaningful of his life. The Hadassah Medical Humanitarian Mission on the Ukrainian-Polish border profoundly impacted him, as he witnessed the challenges faced by Ukrainian refugees in need of medical care.

During the mission, Dr. Saks worked tirelessly alongside the Hadassah team, providing healthcare 24/7. He vividly recalls the enormous crowds of people seeking assistance in the converted shopping mall, with 800 to 1,000 women and children passing through daily. He witnessed firsthand the gratitude of the refugees, who relied on the medical care provided amidst the turmoil of their lives.

The mission presented numerous challenges, including addressing the medical needs of refugees who had run out of medications and finding suitable alternatives locally. Dr. Saks and the team also encountered cases requiring complex consultations with colleagues back at the Hadassah Medical Organization in Jerusalem, striving to bridge medical gaps and ensure the best possible care.
