Hadassah Medical Organization’s (HMO’s) Department of Gynecologic Oncology has been accredited by the European Society of Gynecological Oncology (ESGO) as a recognized center for fellowship training.

The international imprimatur is granted to a limited number of world medical centers that meet strict standards in professional training, clinical excellence, academic research, and multidisciplinary treatment of women with malignant diseases of the reproductive system.

The ESGO accreditation is considered one of the most prestigious recognitions in gynecologic oncology in Europe. To become accredited, medical centers must undergo a comprehensive, rigorous evaluation process in which a wide range of parameters is examined.

According to Prof. Tamar Perri, Director of Gynecologic Oncology at HMO, the achievement has broad significance beyond the department’s boundaries. She calls ESGO accreditation “international recognition of the professional, academic, and humane level of our team.”

Gynecologic oncology is one of the most complex areas of specialization in gynecology. It deals with the diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up of women who are coping with cancers of the female reproductive system, including ovarian cancer, uterine cancer, cervical cancer, vulvar cancer, and other rare gynecological tumors.

At Hadassah, the Department of Gynecologic Oncology operates as a leading national center, providing care to women from across the country. In addition to its extensive clinical activities, the department conducts significant research and participates in international gynecologic oncology studies.

“Today, it is already clear that optimal treatment for gynecological malignancies is not limited to surgery or medication alone,” says Prof. Perri. “Complete support is required, including experts in various fields, personalization of the treatment, and close accompaniment of the patient throughout the entire process.”

Prof. Perri expects that training experts within an ESGO-recognized program will expand the department’s international collaborations and deepen ties with leading centers worldwide.

“Modern medicine is advancing at a very fast pace,” Prof. Perri continues. “In order to provide the highest level of care, we must be part of international research work while consuming and applying knowledge created elsewhere.”
