The latest community outreach of Hadassah’s Patricia and Russell Fleishman Women’s Health Center is providing the elderly residents of Jerusalem’s Katamonin neighborhood with health education and disease prevention.
Most of the over 1600 residents of Katamonin immigrated from Morocco and Kurdistan in the 1950’s, and were later joined by Russian immigrants in the 1990s and more recent years. Seventy women from around the city have volunteered to help in the new Center. Shlomit Cohen, 63, one of the new volunteers noted: “My previous volunteer activities were with youth, but I’ve decided that older women are a group that’s easy to neglect and the elderly need a lot of help and support. It’s wonderful that Hadassah is making this happen.”
