This summer, Hadassah Medical Center surgeons transplanted 2 hearts, 2 livers, and 1 kidney into 5 patients within 48 hours.

Physicians, nurses, transplant coordinators, social workers, lab technicians, operating room equipment technicians, blood bank employees, secretaries, and maintenance people all contributed to this life-saving marathon. A 42-year-old mother of six, who had severe heart disease, received a new heart. A 24-year-old man, suffering from a critical liver disease caused by a congenital problem, received a new liver. A 49-year-old man who had a damaged heart due to a heart attack, received a new heart. A 61-year-old woman, suffering from Hepatitis C, received a new liver. And a 28-year-old man received a new kidney, donated by his 35-year-old sister.
