Hadassah University Medical Center researchers have identified genes unique to a group of Orthodox women in Israel who conceived naturally after age 45, which generate an anti-aging effect.
The researchers note that these women, who had at least six children, have greater longevity than those who end their childbearing earlier. The DNA findings, comments Prof. Neri Laufer, Chair of Hadassah’s Obstetrics and Gynecology Department and a lead researcher in the study, could be the first step toward groundbreaking treatment that could help “rejuvenate the body” of women and men.
At least four of the genes the researchers identified as part of the DNA footprint that allows women to conceive naturally after age 45 were found to inhibit programmed cell death, which results in an anti-aging effect. Read the entire April 10 Haaretz.com article.
