Three days before he was to be married, Ziv Abate ended up in Hadassah Hospital Mount Scopus with an acute stomach infection that required emergency surgery. He and his bride, Yaffa, had dreamed about their wedding for a long time. They had planned every detail and were determined not to cancel the event. With the help of Hadassah’s staff, the couple was able to have their wedding after all.
The surgical ward was turned into a bridal salon for Yaffa. Ziv put on his wedding suit, along with an oxygen mask, as family, friends, and hospital staff waited in the hospital corridor to greet the couple. An ambulance then whisked Ziv and Yaffa off to the wedding venue, where they were married, and then they returned to the hospital so Ziv could complete his recovery.
