Twice in recent weeks and for the fourth time in recent months, members of Israeli groupings of medical specialists have chosen Hadassah physicians to lead them. 

This latest peer recognition of Hadassah’s leadership comes with election of Dr. Liran Tiosano, a cataract and retina surgeon at Hadassah Medical Center, as Chair of the Israeli Retina Society, the professional body representing retina specialists in Israel. 

Dr. Tiosano’s extensive clinical and surgical experience includes complex cataract surgery, retinal detachment surgery and treatment of macular holes, epiretinal membranes and diabetic retinal complications. Alongside his clinical work, Dr. Tiosano is an active researcher and senior lecturer on the research track at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. 

The retina specialist’s election comes shortly after Professor Lior Katz, was tapped as President of the Israeli Gastroenterology and Liver Association.  A leading researcher as well as a clinician, Prof. Katz serves on the faculty of the Hadassah-Hebrew University Medical School, while also leading the Gastroenterology and Liver Complex at Hadassah hospitals and managing the hospital’s Gastroenterology Institute. 

These selections follow the election of Prof. Sigal Sviri, Director of the Medical Intensive Care Unit at Hadassah Ein Kerem and Deputy Director of the Internal Medicine Division, as Chair of the Israeli Society of Critical Care Medicine, and Prof. Malena Cohen-Cymberknoh, Director of the Pediatric Pulmonology Unit and Cystic Fibrosis Center at Hadassah, to lead the Israeli Association of Pediatric Pulmonology.
