A severe perforation in a fetus’ abdomen, coupled with an internal hernia, made it necessary for Hadassah Pediatric Surgeon Danny Arbel to perform a complicated, innovative life-saving surgery hours after the baby’s birth.
“No one I knew had seen this condition, nor was there anything in the literature,” relates Dr. Arbel. Nevertheless, he was able to save the baby by removing much of his ruptured intestine. His prognosis? “I predict that he’ll grow up to be a handsome, intelligent, and lively child,” said Dr. Arbel.
Dr. Arbel plans to submit an article about the innovative operation to a surgical journal.
