Dear Friend of Hadassah,
It’s been an intense few weeks. But, as we write, Israel has a ceasefire with Iran. And we have renewed hope for an end to the war in Gaza and the return of our hostages.
Many heroes brought us to this point. Our security forces, for sure. But no less heroic were the people of Israel. Despite having Iranian missiles aimed right at them – despite the casualties and devastation, the sleepless nights and the unrelenting stress – ordinary Israelis remained strong.
There are many reasons for Israel’s astonishing resilience — and Hadassah stands as a powerful illustration of it. When war raged, Hadassah didn’t hesitate. It kept its doors open, expanded its care, and became a symbol of strength, compassion, and determination in the face of crisis.
The sick and the wounded needed Hadassah to help them heal, even while sirens wailed and missiles rained. ‘Refugee’ patients from the south needed Hadassah to take them in when their main medical center was significantly damaged by an attack. Hadassah also provided shelter and safety for the most critically ill patients — ensuring lifesaving care could continue even under missile fire. Israelis needed to know that Hadassah would be there for them, their neighbors, and their loved ones in their hour of need.
Hadassah was there for Israel – because you were there for Hadassah.
You’re also one of the heroes of this amazing story!
You answered our call when we needed you. When the full fury of war stretched us to the limit, you were there for us, for Hadassah, for Israel.
You helped us make it through this attempt to destroy us. And you helped us prepare for the next.
Because if there’s one thing we can be sure of, the Iranians will try again. Which means that our existential war isn’t over. It’s just taken a break – and we don’t know how long it will last.
But now we have time, precious time to make the preparations we now know we must make to be ready for Iran’s next attack when it comes.
- We know we need much more protected space. So that we have room not only to treat our own patients safely but also, God forbid, displaced patients from other hospitals that are hit. We know what preparations must be made now in case, next time, Hadassah itself is hit.
- We know we must urgently reach full rehabilitation capacity. For civilians and soldiers wounded by war, and for victims of everyday accidents and crippling illnesses who are struggling to rebuild their lives.
- And as one of Israel’s foremost centers for treating emotional trauma, Hadassah must massively expand its mental-health services to meet the tidal wave of distressed and traumatized people who turn to us in their moment of despair.
We’ll be using break in the fighting wisely, to make these preparations – even as we continue to push back the frontiers of medicine and help Israel and the world to heal.
Thank you for standing with us through the challenges of the past weeks, months and years. Thanks for continuing to be a hero in our people’s unfolding story.
Shalom from Hadassah International and Israel. And thank you for your partnership.
