In January 2024, Aline, from São Paulo, Brazil, embarked on a heartfelt journey with the Hadassah Solidarity Mission to Israel, driven by her deep desire to contribute to the nation’s recovery efforts. While she had visited Israel on multiple occasions before this trip held a special significance for her. Aline was determined to make a positive impact, particularly on the teenagers at Neurim, a Hadassah Youth Aliyah Village.
The Three-Day Hadassah Mission
Joining over 50 other participants from across the globe, Aline engaged in a three-day Hadassah Solidarity Mission to Israel. Their primary aim was to witness the aftermath of October 7th and the subsequent conflict, and to explore how Hadassah volunteers could support Israel and the dedicated medical staff at the Hadassah Medical Organization who were tirelessly caring for those affected.
During the mission, Aline learned about Hadassah Hospitals’ Mental Health initiatives aimed at helping the population cope with the trauma of terrorism and war. Additionally, she discovered Hadassah Neurim, a unique Youth Village where children receive education and housing, sometimes due to familial circumstances. Aline was moved by the resilience of the children she met and felt compelled to provide further support. She initiated discussions with Lapid Levi, the CFO of Hadassah Office in Israel, to fund a special event for these children, aiming to be personally involved in bringing them joy.
Supporting Israel’s Youth with a Brazilian Day at Hadassah Neurim Youth Village
Recognizing the challenges faced by teenagers, Aline emphasized, “Young people often struggle to express their emotions or engage in therapy.” Understanding the importance of prioritizing youth well-being, she aimed to create spaces where they could experience joy amidst their difficulties.
During the mission, Aline conceived an innovative idea – organizing a Brazilian-themed day for the youth at Hadassah Neurim. Collaborating with the school, she arranged a vibrant day filled with giant inflatables, a sweets table, various games, soccer matches adorned with Brazilian jerseys, and a grand Brazilian dinner accompanied by music and dancing. Aline actively participated in ensuring the day was a memorable and joyful experience for the children.
Sponsoring Additional Events
Aline’s dedication to Israel’s youth extended beyond Neurim. She sponsored two additional events – one at Eretz Bereishit for children from Kibbutz Be’eri, catering to 90 participants, and another at Sky Jump, bringing together 250 wives and children of soldiers for a festive meal and recreational activities.
Aline’s journey from São Paulo to Israel exemplifies the transformative power of compassion, demonstrating how acts of kindness can inspire hope even in the most challenging of times.
