Dear Friend,
This week, we moved underground. Again.
This was the fourth time our teams at Hadassah Ein Kerem and Hadassah Mount Scopus had evacuated patients to underground areas. Executed with exemplary professionalism, the operation to relocate the Ein Kerem NICU, for example, took just 40 minutes.
With Iran again attacking Israel, this was no drill. Hadassah hospitals switched to emergency mode with practiced efficiency. We were prepared – and remain prepared – to ensure that our patients are safe and protected, and that critical care continues.
To Emergency Mode – With Practiced Efficiency
In a video message, HMO Director General Prof. Yoram Weiss reflected on how quickly the hospitals snapped into emergency mode. It took only 40 minutes to move the neonatal intensive care unit into a protected space underground.
Following instructions from the Home Front Command, Hadassah moved to emergency mode with practiced efficiency. Protocols were immediately implemented to:
- Move patients, including the NICU and other departments, to protected areas and prepare additional protected spaces across both hospitals.
- Reduce hospital occupancy as much as possible, discharging patients only when medically safe.
- Continue medical activity where possible in protected settings, including ambulatory care, day hospitalization, urgent procedures, and selected imaging.
- Assess surgical capacity in the SWD Davidson Tower for possible 24/7 operation.
- Prepare staff reinforcements if needed, including possible support from IDF personnel and students.
- Strengthen cyber readiness with reinforced instructions to all departments.
Because of you
For now, the immediate outlook looks quiet. But at Hadassah hospitals, we can’t afford to take chances. We are prepared, at a moment’s notice, to take the steps necessary to protect our patients and ensure that critical care continues.
That preparedness is possible because of you, friends and partners of Hadassah everywhere.
